11th Sustainable Living Fair announces new downtown location, keynote speakers and exhibitor registration
New partnership provides permanent location for the Fair along side the Poudre River in the heart of Fort Collins FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FORT COLLINS, Colo. – May 21, 2010 – The Sustainable Living Fair announced today that it is changing the location to Legacy Park located in downtown Fort Collins at 300 Woodlawn Drive. Legacy Park is positioned just north of Lee Martinez Park and is central to the bike path and Poudre River. According to City Manager, Darin Atteberry, the Sustainable Living Fair is an integral part of Fort Collins and now we have a permanent location in the heart of the City. The price of admission to the Sustainable Living Fair will offer a dynamic selection of events to participate in. For $8, people attending the Fair the weekend of September 18-19, can visit 250 different exhibitors, engage themselves in over 100 workshops and hear four prominent people speak on issues that concern them. This national eco-fair has something for everyone. Jeff Mapes, senior political reporter for The Oregonian newspaper in Portland and author of Pedaling Revolution: How Cyclists are Changing American Cities will speak on Saturday, September 18th at 12pm. A longtime bike commuter, Mapes decided to write his book after watching the growth of a robust urban bike culture in Portland. Pedaling Revolution was reviewed by The New York Times and numerous other publications and is now in its third printing. Mapes has covered numerous state, congressional and presidential campaigns as well as several sessions of the Oregon Legislature, and he is a former Washington correspondent. Heather C. Flores, certified permaculture designer and author of Food Not Lawns will speak on Saturday, September 18th at 2pm. This book combines practical wisdom on ecological design and community-building with a fresh, green perspective on an age-old subject. Activist and urban gardener, Flores shares her nine-step permaculture design to help farmsteaders and city dwellers alike build fertile soil, promote biodiversity, and increase natural habitat in their own "paradise gardens." www.HeatherCFlores.com Andrew Harvey, internationally acclaimed poet, novelist, translator, mystical scholar, and spiritual teacher will speak on Sunday, September 18th at 12pm. Harvey has published over 20 books including Son of Man and The Return of the Mother. Harvey has taught at Oxford University, Cornell University, The California Institute of Integral Studies, and the University of Creation Spirituality, as well as, various spiritual centers throughout the United States. He was the subject of the 1993 BBC film documentary The Making of a Modern Mystic. At the Craftsman's Workshop, participants can learn traditional skills from metalsmithing to leather working. Visiting the Zen Zone, provides alternative healthcare avenues and an excellent way to relax during the weekend. Other workshops featured at the Fair include five extended workshops where participants pay an additional fee to work hands-on with the instructors.
