Learn About Wildlife

The Northern Colorado Wildlife Center will be at Earth Day connecting kids with nature to foster environmental awareness, repsect and stewardship. Kids can get up close and personal with some of the animals we find in our area.

From elusive bobcats to industrious beavers, Northern Colorado is home to a fascinating variety of mammals. This presentation introduces the region’s mammals, their unique adaptations, and the roles they play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Discover how these animals survive and thrive in our changing envirionment.

Learn About Wildfires

The Poudre Wilderness Volunteers will also be at Earth Day. They assist in managing and protecting wilderness and backcountry areas and will have opportunities to learn about wildfires.

The Cameron Peak fire started on August 13, 2020 and lasted nearly 4 months until it slowed, and eventually was put out by snow. It became the largest forest fire in Colorado at nearly 209,000 acres.

Learn about the causes of wildfires in our mountains, the firefighters who help protect us and the forests, and how to prevent wildfires. Explore a firefighter’s backpack and spin the Fire Wheel to answer questions and win a prize!

Earth Day Youth Writing & Art Contest

Inspired by Earthday.org’s My Future My Voice Youth Ambassador program, we are asking local youths to express their visions and desires for the future.

Why? Because we believe that creative expression raises awareness and can help us dream the world we want, and help us remember our interconnection to each other and all life.

And because we believe that beauty, creativity, interaction, and collaboration are necessary to create a world where we all not only survive but thrive, and that youth voices are crucial to help motivate and inspire the action we need.

We invite all students between the ages of 11–18 to submit short stories, essays, poems or artwork. The winners in each category will have an opportunity to share their work on the main stage at Earth Day Fort Collins. All submissions are due by noon on Thursday, April 3rd.

Submissions Closed
